Primordial goddess of the night. One of the oldest entities in Greek myth, and even Zeus feared her.
Resonant with depth, mystery, unknowability, or forbidden knowledge. Some cosmic horror undertone.
NYX is headquartered in a PHOENIX Black Site, underneath Kootenai National Forest, in the far northwestern section of Montana, along the Canada–US border. It is very remote.
Worshippers of Abyssus
This group believes that Abyssus is not merely a network—but a living primordial intelligence. Not evil… just so old and vast that human understanding shatters under its weight. They operate like a cross between deep-space cartographers, mystics, and dangerous cultists. Exposure to Abyssus can cause Veil Sickness or Cognitive Drift, which they consider sacred stigmata.
They are trying to communicate with and map what’s inside.
“The Veil” or “Cosmic Loom” is the manifold that allows any point in the universe to be connected to any other. ABYSSUS is a virtual computer network we discovered inside with the help of Legacy.
This secret network has a mythic or religious status within PHOENIX–the high-ranking people who have access to it whisper about it with reverence, because it seems to tap into the deepest parts of your mind when you use it (like Ayahuasca). When PHOENIX found out about the existence of The Veil, they explored it and discovered it could be used to send data through. But their initial testing revealed that there was already a deep and ancient network inside. This ancient network they nicknamed The Abyss, because it seems like an ocean of 3D volume with strange and alien “things” swimming around in it–things that seem to have no interest in human affairs, (more cosmic horror)
The Veil / Celestial Loom – A secretive, quasi-mystical PHOENIX network.
Sensory/mental entanglement – Using it feels like a deep hallucinogenic experience, tied to memory and self-perception.
ABYSSUS – The Ancient Layer – A vast, preexisting network of unknown origin, populated by incomprehensible entities. Sacred, haunted, and deeply old.
Analytical Overlay – from the perspective of human consciousness, their true forms are too alien, so the mind renders them as cosmic whales, crabs, or hybrid sea-monsters.

ABYSSUS Access Structure
ABYSSTech: A classified neuro-quantum interface. Hardware must be implanted to commune.
ABYSSTech Quantum Transceiver: The key implant. Required for entanglement. Symbolically “your third eye is opened.”
ABYSSTech Quantum Frame: The bootstrapping ritual system. Synchronizes the user’s cognitive patterns with a designated drone inside Dark Pearl.
NYX Initiation Ritual – “The Rite of Blind Communion”
Reenactment of the first contact with Abyssus.
Mid-ritual: the Transceiver is implanted (often in the base of the skull or behind the eye).
Final stage: candidate is jacked into the Quantum Frame and experiences Abyssus.
If they survive without rejecting the experience—or losing themselves in it—they’re accepted into NYX Grade I: The Outer Choir.
Trinity Archivum: Ozark Data Complex
The Ozarks are absolutely ripe for Phoenix involvement. There are some persistent rumors and legends about secret installations and off-limits zones in that region. Dense forests, rugged geology, hidden hollows, deep cave systems, small towns with old secrets…it’s practically begging for subterranean activity!
3 Data Core Sites, a Gateway for security and logistics and several, short STYX railway lines to connect them. There’s a secret 4th site, NOX, where a catastrophe took place. It is now a containment site.
Real-World Lore & Rumors from the Ozarks
Strange Government Land Acquisitions: In places like northern Arkansas and southern Missouri, there have been reports of land suddenly going off-limits or being purchased by anonymous entities, often near cave systems or bluffs. Dulce Base-Style Rumors: Some fringe theories talk about underground military tunnels and genetic experiments, echoing Dulce, NM. These stories often get dismissed—but they’re exactly the kind of tales Phoenix would bury in disinformation. Disappearing Hikers and Hunters: Just like in National Parks, the Ozarks have a long list of missing person cases, often attributed to animal attacks or accidents—though some vanish without a trace. Caves and Karst Topography: The region has some of the largest unexplored cave systems in North America. Blanchard Springs, Onyx Cave, and Devil’s Well are just a few that could hide artificial expansions or sealed access points. Mystery Lights & Sky Anomalies: Reports of silent aircraft, low-frequency hums, and weird sky glows (especially around remote hilltops) go back decades.
Trinity Gateway (The Gauntlet)

A gateway facility. The primary security checkpoint and logistics hub for the Trinity Archivum. This facility serves as a single access point for personnel and materials, ensuring stringent security protocols and streamlined operations across Data Cores AURORA, GRAYNEST, and LAMINA.
Conceptual Overview:
Functionality: The gateway facility would centralize security vetting, personnel authentication, and logistical coordination. All movements into and out of the Trinity Archivum would be processed here, maintaining the integrity and secrecy of the interconnected Data Cores. Access Control: Given the sensitive nature of the Trinity Archivum, access is highly restricted. Even high-ranking Phoenix personnel undergo rigorous scrutiny, emphasizing the facility’s role in safeguarding against internal and external threats.
Naming Consideration:
Reflecting the facility’s stringent security measures and the notorious demeanor of its personnel, a derogatory nickname naturally emerged among Phoenix operatives. This moniker encapsulates the facility’s reputation for uncompromising protocols and the often-intimidating conduct of its security staff. “The Gauntlet” conveys a sense of an arduous and unrelenting challenge, mirroring the exhaustive security procedures personnel must endure. It also alludes to the historical concept of running the gauntlet—a form of punishment involving a challenging ordeal—paralleling the experiences of those passing through the facility.
Justification:
Operational Reality: The name reflects the facility’s design to be an imposing barrier, deterring unauthorized access through its formidable reputation.
Data Core AURORA
Big Buffalo Creek Conservation Area, Missouri
Bio-Lab: Botanical / Terraforming / Bio-weapons
Cover Story: A decommissioned hydroelectric research facility, long closed to the public due to “sinkhole instability.”
Real Purpose: A multi-tiered underground lab focused on:
Genetically engineered flora Experimental terraforming: microbes that alter plant and soil behavior Failed bio-weapons in stasis
Facility Quirks & Secrets:
Part of the site was abandoned in the 1990s after a catastrophic “Bloom Event” where genetically engineered plant matter rapidly overtook three sublevels. Several staff members were sealed inside, and their fate is unknown. According to one scientist, “Something woke up in there. And it didn’t want to be harvested.”
Erebus Corps considers the area a no-go zone. A squad went dark trying to retrieve the missing personnel, and the “Bloom Section” was then quarantined.

Data Core NOX – “The Abyssal Gate”

Experimental Consciousness Transfer and Containment Lab
Purpose:
Originally established as a clandestine experiment in consciousness transfer and immortality, NOX aimed to digitize human souls, preserving them within a quantum lattice. The objective was to achieve eternal life by allowing consciousness to exist independently of the physical form.
The Catastrophe:
The project spiraled into disaster when the digitized consciousnesses began to corrupt and fragment, leading to unforeseen consequences:
Wraith-like Entities: The corrupted consciousnesses manifested as shadowy, wraith-like figures, capable of influencing and even possessing the living. These entities are intangible, inducing hallucinations and paranoia in those they encounter. Containment Breach: Despite emergency protocols, the entities breached containment, resulting in the loss of the entire facility. Survivors reported experiencing profound psychological disturbances, with some undergoing irreversible transformations. Erebus Corps’ Silence: The catastrophe was so profound that Erebus Corps enforced an absolute blackout, erasing all records and forbidding any mention of NOX. The site was sealed, and all access points were collapsed or hidden.
Current Status:
NOX remains sealed and abandoned, a forbidden zone within the Phoenix network. Unauthorized access is met with extreme caution, as the site is considered lethally hazardous.

The “NOX Effect”: A term used to describe the psychological deterioration experienced by those who venture too close to the site. Symptoms include vivid nightmares, paranoia, and, in extreme cases, hallucinations of shadowy figures. The Lost Operatives: Stories tell of operatives who attempted to uncover NOX’s secrets, only to disappear without a trace. The Wraiths’ Influence: Some believe the wraith-like entities have managed to extend their influence beyond the physical confines of NOX, subtly affecting nearby Phoenix site operations and decisions.
